The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Announces Philadelphia Insurance Companies as Sponsor of 2016 Parkway Run & Walk
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) today announced that Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) will sponsor the 2016 Parkway Run & Walk, taking place September 25 along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Held every September, the Parkway Run & Walk is the largest annual fundraiser for the Cancer Center at CHOP, an internationally recognized leader in pediatric cancer treatment and research.
"The Parkway Run & Walk is the biggest event of the year for our employees and their families," said Bob O'Leary, president and CEO at Philadelphia Insurance Companies. "TEAMPHLY has fun raising money in our office and community each year. We are passionately committed to supporting the patients, families, doctors and researchers in the fight against pediatric cancer."
A sponsor of the Parkway Run & Walk for 13 consecutive years, PHLY has contributed $735,000 to advance the mission of the Cancer Center at CHOP, donating more than $100,000 last year alone. In 2016, PHLY will match individual fundraising donations dollar-for-dollar – up to $25,000 – through a unique email campaign. Also this year, the company is spearheading a new effort, the "TEAMPHLY CHOP Challenge," offering incentives to fundraising teams of all sizes. As part of the program, from September 1 through September 8, PHLY will provide a dollar-for-dollar match to the first 10 teams that raise $500 during the month of September.
"Philadelphia Insurance Companies has been a tremendous philanthropic partner to CHOP for more than a decade," said Stephen P. Hunger, M.D., chief of the Division of Oncology and director of the Center for Childhood Cancer Research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "As we prepare for this year's Parkway Run & Walk, we are incredibly appreciative of their generosity and ongoing commitment to helping us fight childhood cancer – one step at a time."
One of the largest pediatric cancer programs in the nation, the Cancer Center at CHOP treats more than 550 newly diagnosed children each year. Patients and families come to CHOP from around the globe to receive the best pediatric cancer care from some of the world's top clinicians. A hallmark event, the Parkway Run & Walk is a poignant finale to the Cancer Center's efforts to raise funds and awareness during September's National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
