WASHINGTON, July 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Catherine Roland begins her role as president of the American Counseling Association (ACA) after having served a year in the role of president-elect. In addition to being the world's largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings, the professional and educational organization is also dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. As president of the ACA, Dr. Roland will serve as chair of the policy-making body of the organization and as the organization's spokesperson. Dr. Roland is available for interview to discuss her new role.
"I am humble, grateful and excited. This is the pinnacle of my profession of counseling," said Dr. Roland, who is the department chair of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Department at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology's Washington, D.C. Campus. "It can be looked at as the most important professional position one can attain."
For The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, one of the leading nonprofit graduate universities devoted exclusively to the study of psychology, and related behavioral health sciences, having Dr. Roland as a faculty member and head of a department is another way the university lives up to its credo to ensure that its students receive an effective and high-quality educational experience.
"Dr. Roland is just the kind of professor we want at The Chicago School—a creative thinker, dedicated teacher and advocate, and a great leader. Her election by her peers to such a prestigious role bears this out," said Dr. Heather Sheets, campus dean, The Chicago School's Washington, D.C. Campus. "We are thrilled to have her at The Chicago School. She, along with Dr. Courtland Lee, a past ACA president, Dr. Verna Oliva, who assumed the role of the ACA Governing Council Parliamentarian on July 1, and Dr. Robtrice Brawner, a faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Department, offer our counseling students a stellar educational experience that they would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else."
"Perhaps one of the most important roles I will assume is that of champion of inclusion of all communities and diversities for complete and equal access to counseling services, in all areas or venues," Dr. Roland added.
