Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company, said: "It was my pleasure to introduce David Rubenstein as he received the 2018 ABANA Achievement Award. David's work, spanning several decades, has helped develop the investment and asset management industry across the MENA region, with Carlyle as one of the most established investment partners for many regional institutions."
ABANA Chair Mahmoud Mamdani added: "David's conscientious stewardship of his clients' assets moved his relationships from purely transactional to ones based on partnerships, friendship, and mutual success-and helped establish The Carlyle Group as a thought partner for institutional investors. Beyond his impressive business accomplishments, his work ethic, intellectual curiosity and personal commitment to a range of philanthropic activities set a high bar for the rest of us, encouraging us to look beyond our day jobs and think more broadly about the impact of our work and our personal legacies."
Accepting the award, Rubenstein said, "The Middle East has some of the world's most sophisticated investors. I am honored to accept this award, which, I believe is a reflection of the many successful relationships Carlyle has formed with individuals and institutions in the Middle East in the past 25 years. I look forward to deepening our ties to the region in the years to come and using private capital to create value for investors in the Middle East."
At the close of the evening, Mamdani observed, "This evening was truly inspiring for our members and guests. In particular, David's encouragement for each of us to reflect on how we can help to improve US appreciation of the welcoming and rich culture of the Middle East, as well as his advice to find ways to contribute to the betterment of our countries and societies-as he so famously has-was an inspiration that I expect to have a lasting impression beyond tonight."
