Last year, recognizing that one in seven women will suffer from a maternal mental health disorder like postpartum depression, and the serious implications of untreated maternal mental health disorders for mothers, children, families and society more generally, Assembly member Bonnie Lowenthal, then Chair of the California Legislative Women's Caucus introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 148. The resolution requested 2020 Mom (formerly the California Maternal Mental Health Collaborative) establish the Task Force.
The Task Force will operate like a blue ribbon commission: a group of experts representing key stakeholder groups, formed to study a particular topic and make recommendations. The Task Force will meet for a period of one year, to address gaps in services and policy related to Maternal Mental Health in California, and to make recommendations for improvement.
The Task Force consists of more than 20 appointed members. Biographies can be found here: http://www.2020mom.org/ca_taskforce
