WASHINGTON, June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With a diversity of voices and ventures, Halcyon Incubator's fifth cohort is uniquely qualified to confront the complex challenges of the 21st century.
Today, Halcyon, one of the nation's premier incubators for early-stage social entrepreneurs, announces the selection of eight social ventures to participate in its 18-month intensive program, providing their founders the space and the resources to springboard and scale their businesses.
This class of social entrepreneurs comes from the most diverse applicant pool in Halcyon's history, with 46% of the applicants considered coming from female founders.
"We are seeing incredible diversity in the social entrepreneurs applying to Halcyon," says Ryan Ross, Halcyon Program Director. "Without a doubt, the fifth cohort represents some of the most innovative social enterprises in the world."
The ventures in Cohort 5 answer pressing problems with creative solutions, ranging from accelerating coral reef restoration to increasing early access to literature through text messages. These impressive social entrepreneurs join 32 extraordinary ventures in previous cohorts at Halcyon. Collectively, these cohorts and their ventures have impacted the lives of over 100,000 people around the world.
