The Brooklyn Academy of Music And The Brooklyn Hospital Center Announce Three-Year Partnership To Promote The Arts And Community Health Wellness Programs
NEW YORK, July 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) and The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) announced a three-year partnership to deliver arts and health wellness programs targeting new audiences, patients, local communities, and employees at both institutions, officials said.
Under the agreement, TBHC becomes the official health care provider of BAM − America's oldest performing arts center.
TBHC will collaborate with BAM to offer access to clinician-led workshops, screenings, and wellness activities highlighting the connection between health and the arts.
BAM will deliver on-site programming at TBHC. They will also showcase the Brooklyn's oldest hospital at performances at its world-renowned performing arts facilities, officials said.
"TBHC has served the borough for more than 170 years," said BAM President Katy Clark, "and they are a vital part of our community. As BAM's official health care provider, TBHC is an ideal partner in developing programs that promote health and wellness through exposure to the arts. From free health screenings and yoga classes to on-site live performances, this partnership will provide an array of benefits to the communities we serve."
Gary G. Terrinoni, TBHC's President and CEO, said that for generations, BAM, like TBHC, has been an important resource for the greater Brooklyn community and beyond.
"Both institutions have long worked toward the same goal: to better the lives of our neighbors," Terrinoni said. "As a sponsor and the official health care provider of BAM, TBHC can reach even more people in more creative ways, as we continue to live our motto - Keeping Brooklyn Healthy. We are very excited about the possibilities of this partnership."
The partnership announcement comes as TBHC recently received The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) Heart Failure and Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Awards for implementing some of the best medical practices for patient heart care.
In addition, U.S. News & World Report named TBHC one of the best hospitals for heart failure care.
"TBHC's National Quality, Brooklyn Address Campaign says it all," Terrinoni said. "Top, quality care delivered locally. Our recognition for quality continues to grow nationally."
The TBHC/BAM community health and wellness campaign marks the first time the two venerable Brooklyn institutions have entered a partnership. The goal is to bring people together by promoting health and wellness; and the borough's rich culture and arts, officials said.
A variety of exciting programs are scheduled to unfold during the TBHC/BAM three-year partnership.
Highlights include:
