The Bascom Group, LLC Reaches Milestone of 100 Real Estate Interns

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bascom Group, LLC, (http://www.bascomgroup.com) a private real estate equity company with a national apartment portfolio exceeding 30,000 units, has recently achieved the milestone of training over 100 real estate interns since its founding in 1996.

Bascom's real estate internship program provides hands-on, real life work experience for undergraduate and graduate students. Real estate interns perform financial analysis and conduct due diligence on value-add and distressed real estate opportunities including properties in foreclosure, bankruptcy, and receivership. Interns also get experience in operations and asset management including performing asset quality inspections, marketing reviews, expense management analysis, and other revenue enhancement studies. "Young people in the real estate industry have the benefit of looking at how we do things in a fresh perspective and often find ways to add value," noted David Kim, Managing Partner.

Bascom's real estate program also allows for the flexibility of recent graduates to interview for full time positions in the real estate industry while working as an intern. This program, for recent graduates, has become popular with the decline in hiring due to the recession. The flexibility of interviewing coupled with the experience gained on the job, has resulted in a placement rate of 100% of all interns in the real estate industry within a six-month period. Bascom has placed interns in most major banks, private equity funds, conduit lenders, brokerage firms, asset managers, and other service providers. "Many of our interns have gone on to become our partners at private equity funds, lenders at banks, and brokers.  Many have gone on to start their own companies and several have become partners in our portfolio companies," added Jerome Fink, Managing Partner.

Although Southern California Universities have provided a steady pipeline of new interns due to their proximity, the Midwest and East Coast are also represented including numerous interns from Wharton, Wisconsin, Berkeley, Yale, MIT. International students have also participated in the program including a number from Taiwanese, Chinese, and Eastern European Universities.

In addition to real life work experience, Bascom's interns are also responsible for creating and managing new community service programs for their apartment communities as well as organizing and participating in charitable work.
