WASHINGTON, March 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) became the 11th member of ACTION for Trade, a coalition that aims to ensure that U.S. trade policy and agreements protect and promote creativity and innovation.
"Fair trade is an essential part of the equation when it comes to incentivizing publication and protecting creative works," said Maria Pallante, President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers. "ACTION for Trade has a strong message and we are delighted to join its important work."
The U.S. publishing industry supports a vibrant culture and market economy, includes over 716,000 U.S. jobs, and produces nearly $28 billion in annual revenue. Publishers of books, journals, and education content have embraced every genre, format, and distribution opportunity of the digital age. But with these innovations have come greater challenges in digital piracy. Weak enforcement devalues publishers, the works of their authors, and the rule of law. It curbs investments and puts jobs at risk.
"The members of the Association of American Publishers drive the exchange of ideas, the dissemination of knowledge, and markets around the world," said Brian Pomper, executive director of ACTION for Trade. "ACTION is excited to work with AAP to ensure that the creativity and innovation of publishers are fairly valued by U.S. trading partners."
