WASHINGTON, July 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Aspen Institute today named the inaugural class of its Finance Leaders Fellowship — 22 finance leaders who will participate in a two-year Fellowship designed to inspire them to take an active role in shaping the global finance industry's future through values-based leadership.
The Fellows represent various sectors within finance including pensions, endowments, regulation, banking, asset management, debt and equity investing, impact investing, credit card and operational finance, among others.
"We welcome this accomplished and action-oriented group of leaders in finance, who have great potential to chart the future course of our industry," said Jennifer Simpson, managing director of the Finance Leaders Fellowship. "The Fellows hail from around the world and across the industry; we at the Aspen Institute are excited to inspire them to lead on a broader scale and to launch ventures that will advance the positive impact of finance on society."
Conceived by Henry Crown Fellow Ranji Nagaswami, the program is now the newest Leadership Initiative of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. "The barometer for public trust in the finance industry was at an all-time low when my co-founder, Christopher Varelas and I recognized an urgent need to establish this program," said Nagaswami, moderator for the Aspen Global Leadership Network. "We are grateful that the CFA Institute, one of our founding sponsors agreed and we look forward to encouraging Fellows to act for the good of society through finance."
The Finance Leaders Fellows will spend four weeks over the course of two years exploring their leadership, core values, desired legacies, and their vision for the global finance industry. Each Fellow commits to launching a leadership venture that will stretch and challenge them and have a positive impact on the finance sector and society. The Finance Leaders Fellows join more than 2,200 other entrepreneurial leaders from over 50 countries to become members of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).
"I am optimistic that through this Fellowship, the members of the inaugural class and those who follow will be able to leverage finance for good. By convening through the Aspen Institute in an inspirational and nonpartisan way, they will be armed with the tools and partnerships they will need to make a difference," said Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson.
