The Art Institutes Announces Partnership with the James Beard Foundation to Provide Scholarships for Culinary Students
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Art Institutes system of schools is pleased to announce a new national partnership with the renowned James Beard Foundation that will fund scholarships for culinary students. The Art Institutes will kick off the partnership with two Friends of James Beard Benefit dinners at The Art Institute of Houston on May 10, 2014 and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh on May 31, 2014.
Friends of James Beard Benefits raise funds that go toward scholarships for aspiring culinary students and the James Beard Foundation's other educational programs. This is not the first time The Art Institutes and the James Beard Foundation will work together. The Art Institutes schools have previously partnered with the James Beard Foundation for holiday dinners prepared by Art Institutes culinary faculty at the James Beard House, and several alumni have worked with the James Beard Foundation or have been nominated for James Beard Awards.
"We are very honored to be selected to work with the James Beard Foundation, one of the most respected organizations in the culinary industry," said Charles Restivo, president, The Art Institutes. "This partnership opportunity provides our culinary students with valuable industry experience, participating in the behind-the-scenes execution of culinary events and enables our schools to continue to give back to the communities they serve."

About the James Beard Foundation:
Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation's mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor America's diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, James Beard, who died in 1985, was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful and delicious food. Today the Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City's Greenwich Village as a "performance space" for visiting chefs. In September of 2012, the Foundation launched the Diplomatic Culinary Partnership with the U.S. Department of State's Office of Protocol and helped create the American Chef Corps as a way to champion American chefs abroad, promote American food products and foster an interest in American culinary culture and history through international programs and initiatives.
