The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Breaks Ground On New Schaumburg, Ill. Headquarters
CHICAGO, April 29, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) broke ground Saturday, April 27 on its new headquarters at 1061 American Lane, Schaumburg, Ill. The ceremony marked the start of construction on a three-story, 70,000 square foot, highly efficient building capable of accommodating nearly 200 employees. ASA is an educational, research and scientific society with more than 50,000 members organized to raise and maintain the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and improve the care and safety of the patient.
The event welcomed several important leaders of the local community, including Schaumburg Village President Al Larson and District Director at the Office of Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) Sendy Soto. They joined more than 75 attendees, including ASA President John M. Zerwas, M.D. and Chief Executive Officer Paul Pomerantz in celebrating the future partnership of ASA and the Village.
"ASA's move not only will encourage economic growth in Schaumburg, but also will further enrich our reputation as an engaged and vibrant community through its commitment to advancing and improving medical care and patient safety," said Schaumburg Village President Al Larson.
After brief comments from leaders, the group stood before a large-scale framework of the building and used ceremonial shovels to commemorate the groundbreaking.
"This is the start of a new chapter in ASA's rich history, and thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, members and partners, this building will be a true testament to our commitment to being active participants in medical research and progress," said ASA CEO Paul Pomerantz.
Construction of the new facility is scheduled to be completed in late spring 2014. Upon completion, ASA will relocate its headquarters, currently in Park Ridge, Ill. The Schaumburg headquarters will house ASA's member support, education and communication departments as well as other Society services. The newly expanded Wood Library-Museum (WLM) of Anesthesiology will also reside in ASA's new Schaumburg headquarters. The WLM will celebrate the story of the profession of anesthesiology using electronic media and graphics, and display devices and artifacts that will be creatively integrated throughout the building. ASA's Advocacy division will remain in Washington, D.C.
