The American Fertility Association Hosts Event to Honor Two Deserving Leaders in the Fertility Field
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Fertility Association (The AFA), a national non-profit organization, will hold its 9th annual Illuminations LA fundraising event on March 5th at the Sunset Tower Hotel, the Art Deco masterpiece on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. Illuminations is the name of the event series that takes place across the country in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, New York and Denver, and celebrates the work of individuals and organizations in local communities who have made a positive difference in the fields of fertility, reproductive health and family-building.
At this year's Illuminations LA, The AFA will honor Mark W. Surrey, MD and Elaine R. Gordon, Ph.D. Co-founder and Medical Director of the Southern California Reproductive Center, Dr. Mark Surrey has been a leader in the field of fertility and reproductive medicine for more than 25 years. Elaine Gordon, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist with a specialty in infertility, child development, reproductive medicine, and third-party family-building. Besides her role as a therapist and group facilitator working with patients struggling with fertility-related issues, she lectures on various topics surrounding the psychology of reproductive medicine.
A champagne reception for sponsors will kick off the night at 6:00 pm, followed by general admission at 7:00 pm, with the awards ceremony following. The awards will be presented by Desperate Housewives actress and AFA National Spokesperson Brenda Strong. Illuminations events benefit the work of The American Fertility Association, and have raised nearly $1 million to date. Illuminations LA will raise much-needed funds to support infertility prevention, men's reproductive health, outreach to the lesbian and gay communities, and our work with couples having difficulty conceiving and adoption.
Illuminations LA is a wonderful opportunity for the media to highlight the importance of reproductive health and family-building, by interviewing reproductive endocrinologists, patients, fertility advocates and our own Brenda Strong who created the Yoga4Fertility program to help women worldwide. Members of the media are encouraged to attend. Contact the Director of Communications to be added to the media guest list.
