The American College Announces The Inaugural Recipient Of The Soldier-Citizen Award Will Be Admiral Joe Prueher
BRYN MAWR, Pa., Aug. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American College of Financial Services, the nation's only non-profit, accredited college devoted to financial services, announced today that Admiral Joe Prueher will receive the 2014 Soldier-Citizen Award. Prueher, a retired four-star admiral with the U.S. Navy, will receive the award during a ceremony in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin next month. "Admiral Prueher embodies the essence of what we want this award to represent," said Ted Digges, the Executive Director of The American College's Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs and Chair of the selection committee. "His extraordinary accomplishments represent a lifetime spent focused on worthy causes through sacrifice, selflessness and service."
Prueher's last command while on active duty was Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Pacific Command (CINCPAC), the largest military command in the world spanning over half the earth's surface and included over 300,000 people. He served Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as Ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1999 to 2001. The governments of Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia have formally honored him with induction into their highest Military Orders. He is a former James R. Schlesinger Distinguished Professor at the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs as well as a Senior Advisor to the Stanford- Harvard Preventive Defense Project. He is a former Board Member of Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, Amerigroup and Dyncorps International. He is currently a Board Member of New York Life, Emerson, Fluor and Armada Hoffler, as well as several non-profit organizations.
The Soldier-Citizen Award was created in 2014 to recognize extraordinary individuals who have served honorably in the United States military, achieved success in the financial services industry and who have selflessly given back to society and their community, improving the lot for those coming behind them. Admiral Prueher is the first individual awarded this honor in The College's history.
