The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery Announces 2017 Diplomates
The cosmetic surgery credentialing board welcomes thirteen newly certified cosmetic surgeons.
CHICAGO, March 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) is proud to announce their 2017 diplomates. This year's incoming group of talented cosmetic surgeons are a reflection of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery's high standards and dedication to providing surgeons with access to comprehensive cosmetic surgery training—and the Board is proud of their hard work and devotion to their craft.
"The road to ABCS board certification requires passion for cosmetic medicine and surgery, commitment to continued education and training, and dedication to providing patients with safe, beautiful results," says American Board of Cosmetic Surgery president, Dr. Jacob Haiavy. "Our diplomates should be commended for the years they've spent honing their skills and their efforts in attaining this board certification."
To earn board certification in cosmetic surgery, surgeons must first complete an approved residency program in a related specialty and earn a primary board certification in that specialty. Only after this may they enter into their one-to-two year cosmetic surgery fellowship training, which requires the completion of at least 300 major cosmetic surgery cases and receive additional in-depth training in non-surgical cosmetic procedures. This intensive training period is followed by a rigorous oral and written examination covering all aspects of cosmetic surgery.
This means that, on average, new diplomates have spent around 14 years of training beyond high school and 6 years beyond medical school when you consider pre-professional undergraduate educational requirements, medical school requirements, and the requirements for a residency before being accepted into a cosmetic surgery program.
"The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery training is the only certifying board in the US that focuses exclusively on cosmetic surgery," explains Dr. Haiavy. "All of our surgeons are passionate about cosmetic surgery, and it shows in the results they deliver."
Patients considering a cosmetic surgery procedure are encouraged to use the ABCS website to find a board certified cosmetic surgeon.
