The American Association of Heart Failure Nurses (AAHFN) Celebrates National Nurses Week 2012
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Association of Heart Failure Nurses (AAHFN), along with the American Nurses Association (ANA), celebrates National Nurses Week May 6 – 12, 2012, with RN Recognition Day spotlighted on May 6, 2012.
Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America's 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. This year's theme is "Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring." AAHFN strongly supports this theme as it echoes these values and ethics in medical centers across the United States.
"We are pleased to celebrate National Nurses Week as we continue to set the standard in heart failure nursing care. Over the past year, we have introduced several key educational resources to support the field of heart failure nursing. These include our Certified Heart Failure Nurse program (CHFN), Heart Failure Nursing Certification: Core Curriculum Review, Patient Education Resource Center, Webinar forums and our Annual Meeting in Chicago in June 2012. Our nurses are at the core of patient care on a daily basis. During National Nurses Week we salute nurses across America and believe that our nurses help patients with heart failure live stronger and healthier lives," says Marie Galvao, MSN, ANP-BC, CHFN, AAHFN President.
"National Nurses Week" was first observed in 1954 as a continuing tribute to pioneer Florence Nightingale's mission to treat wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. In 2011, Americans voted nurses the most trusted profession in America for the 12th time in 13 years in the Gallup poll that ranks professions for honesty and ethical standards.
In honor of National Nurses Week, AAHFN would like to recognize not only the work of heart failure nurses, but also all nurses for their dedication to their practice to promote optimal patient outcomes. During this year's National Nurses Week, AAHFN urges its members to wear their AAHFN membership pin proudly.
