NORTHBROOK, Ill., Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of Domestic Violence Month in October, The Allstate Foundation joined forces with actress Rosario Dawson to fight domestic violence and get people talking about this important cause with the Purple Purse campaign. In less than two weeks, more than 18,000 physical and virtual purses have been passed, triggering the donation goal of $175,000 to the YWCA for programs aimed at helping survivors of domestic violence and other women in need. Due to the success of the campaign and the rate at which purses are being passed, sparking important life-changing conversations around domestic violence, The Allstate Foundation is pleased to announce the donation goal has been raised $250,000.

"We're thrilled so many purple purses have been passed this early in The Allstate Foundation's Purple Purse campaign, and we aren't even halfway through the month of October," said Vicky Dinges, vice president of public social responsibility with Allstate. "These purses serve as a strong visual reminder of how important financial empowerment is to breaking the cycle of violence. Our research tells us that access to financial resources is the number one predictor of whether a woman can break free. We need to keep spreading this message."
This month, The Allstate Foundation put the power into Americans' hands with the Purple Purse, the Foundation's symbol for domestic violence, to help break the cycle of abuse. Hundreds of purple purses filled with domestic violence information were distributed throughout the U.S. The Allstate Foundation will donate $10 each time a purse is passed and checked in on PurplePurse.com. Americans can get involved now through Oct. 31 to help reach the new goal and support domestic violence survivors by sharing or re-sharing a virtual purple purse on Facebook.com/PurplePurse, triggering a $5 donation to YWCA.
