SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC) applauds former Florida Governor and gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist for his commitment to solar leadership. In a recent appearance on MSNBC's the Ed Show, Governor Crist stated, "we're the Sunshine State, and we're hardly doing any solar energy production." TASC supports Governor Crist's call for increased solar deployment and more supportive solar policies in Florida.

Data from June 2013 shows that California is the national installed solar capacity leader with 3,761 megawatts. Arizona and New Jersey follow with 1,250 megawatts and 1,119 megawatts respectively. Florida, on the other hand, boasts only 202 megawatts.
According to Governor Crist, "We can be doing so much more, in my humble opinion. ... My understanding is that many other states encourage the use of solar energy much more than Florida."
"We commend Governor Crist for his focus on solar growth," said Bryan Miller, President of TASC and VP of Public Policy for Sunrun. "Solar benefits all energy consumers, and national polls continue to show overwhelming public support for solar, particularly rooftop solar."
About The Alliance for Solar Choice
The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC) advocates for maintaining successful distributed solar energy policies, such as retail net metering, throughout the United States. Retail net metering (NEM) provides fair credit to residents, businesses, churches, schools, and other public agencies when their solar systems export excess energy to the grid. The organization was formed on the belief that anyone should have the option to switch from utility power to distributed solar power, and realize the financial benefits therein. The rooftop solar market has been largely driven by Americans' desire to assert control over their electric bills, a trend that should be encouraged. TASC Member companies include REC Solar, SolarCity, Solar Universe Sungevity, Sunrun, and Verengo.
