The Airborne Toxic Event Release New Single "Wrong" Today
AVAILABLE NOW ON ITUNES AND ALL DIGITAL RETAILERS
FOURTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM, DOPE MACHINES, OUT EARLY 2015
HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR HITS LOS ANGELES THIS WEEK AT THE GREEK THEATRE
NEW YORK, Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Airborne Toxic Event just released their first single from their upcoming fourth full-length album Dope Machines [Epic Records], "Wrong", to iTunes and all digital retailers today. You can hear it at this link and purchase it here. The critically lauded, gold-selling Los Angeles outfit will unveil details for the album very soon. The new single sets the stage for the record as well as the next chapter for the group.
"Wrong" bristles with the inimitable energy the band remains known for. Soaring keys and electronic textures merge with an unforgettable refrain that instantly moves. Meanwhile, the lyrics tell a relatable story of insecurity that's strangely infectious. The track began impacting Alternative Radio this week, and its music video will premiere on VEVO shortly.
Recently, literary tastemaker Los Angeles Review of Books penned an in-depth and insightful feature on the The Airborne Toxic Event's past, present, and future—entitled "The Sob in the Spine". It's not only a shining endorsement, but it paints the picture of frontman Mikel Jollett as a literary figure.
LA Review of Books Writer Cornel Bonca claims, "Lots of rock bands create more or less credible simulacra of meaningful sincerity, but dig deeper and most of the music collapses into lyrical obscurity, cooled-out posing, twee soft-headedness, ironic evasion, or outright bullshitting. The strength of Jollett's music is that he doesn't bullshit onstage and on the page, there's no ironic detachment; his intelligence is focused, heated, and up-front sincere—the models he evokes often are John Lennon and Springsteen, the man means it."
The piece also praised "Wrong" adding, "The emotional core of the song is pure unreconstructed Airborne Toxic Event. It's all there in Jollett's vocal, which starts with a delicate vulnerable falsetto in the verses and transitions to a powerfully ragged roar on the choruses."
Right now, The Airborne Toxic Event is in the midst of a highly successful North American tour. This current jaunt commenced with three sold out nights at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA and will conclude in Denver, CO with two sold out shows at the Ogden Theatre November 6-7.
At the New York City show, Diffuser lauded the new material writing, "They are gorgeous and the best of what Airborne are—soulful and introspective with hooks that stay with you," and mentioning they "could become staples at future shows." While in New Orleans, The Times-Picayune said the band "rocked the southeast corner of the French Quarter." Yahoo Music! also recently featured the band in a comprehensive profile and preview of the new album.
The band stands out as 21st century rock 'n' roll torchbearers. Their 2008 self-titled debut yielded the ubiquitous gold-selling single "Sometime Around Midnight", while its follow-ups All At Once [2010], and Such Hot Blood [2013] garnered wide spread critical acclaim. iTunes named "Sometime Around Midnight" the "#1 Alternative Song of the Year", and it spent a staggering eight weeks at #1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. HBO utilized it on their high-profile Network Season Promo. The group has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman four times, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno four times, and on Jimmy Kimmel Live! three times. Moreover, they've taken the stage at festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza and sold over 50,000 tickets in 2013 alone.
