WASHINGTON, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- At the inaugural meeting of the National Population Health Symposium, on September 16, 2013 at the Ritz Carlton in Washington, DC, The Advisory Board Company will convene provider thought leaders to share their experiences in migrating to risk-based payment models and population health management.

In this national platform, the Advisory Board will engage providers from its own membership, as well as others pursuing payment transformation through such Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) programs as Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), Pioneer ACO Model, and the Bundled Payment for Care Improvement (BPCI) initiative. The Symposium marks a first for the Advisory Board, whose meeting series typically are limited to those who are members of the company's research and performance technology programs.
"We are hearing from our members that sharing experiences on complex implementations in the population health space is helpful. By assembling members and non-members, we hope to provide a larger collaboration to support all providers through the Advisory Board member network and also through our extensive research knowledge-base," said Chas Roades, Chief Research Officer at The Advisory Board Company. "The Advisory Board Company sees this meeting as a way to encourage an open dialogue among providers actively moving toward population health management."
The meeting will draw luminaries from both the health care industry and the health policy community. Jon Blum, Deputy Administrator and Director for the Center of Medicare at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle are scheduled to keynote the event.
"It is an interesting time for health system leaders, as many powerful payment reforms are taking root through both public programs and the private sector. The goal of these reforms is shared by the nation at large – to improve quality while lowering costs to the patient, to employers, and to the federal government. The Symposium will allow providers to hear from each other about different approaches to reform efforts and will focus specifically on how to work with physicians and use data to improve quality," said Frederick Isasi, Vice President of Health Policy at The Advisory Board Company. "With break-out sessions to discuss risk-based contracting that will detail best practices on bundling, shared savings, and capitation, the Symposium will further the dialogue among providers at the frontlines of care transformation."
