The $3B Mobile IT Market is Born
Hotels, Hospitals, Office and Retail Enterprises Buy Mobile Infrastructure
CAMPBELL, Calif., May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Experts LLC released new analysis today to illustrate a fundamental shift in the business model for mobile equipment. For thirty years, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and early forms of Small Cells were sold through mobile operators. Recent developments show a clear trend toward a new business model, with enterprises buying mobile infrastructure directly from the supplier. Mobile Experts LLC forecasts 41% annualized growth (CAGR) through 2021, with enterprise applications accounting for more than $3 billion in 2021.

The new report provides deep-dish analysis of eight vertical markets: Stadiums, Airports and Subways, Hotels, Hospitals, Retail, Hi-Rise Offices, Corporate HQ, and Light Industrial buildings. In each case, Mobile Experts has been able to quantify:
- The value of improved mobile coverage, in enterprise revenue;
- The value to the mobile operator in ARPU per square meter;
- The optimal combination of DAS, Small Cell, or Repeater;
- The total installed cost of a typical DAS, Small Cell, or Repeater system;
- Typical IT spending by enterprises.
"The average hotel stay costs $144, and at least 30% of guests would refuse to stay in a hotel with poor 3G/LTE coverage," explained Senior Analyst Kyung Mun. "In this example and many others, we can quantify the value of mobile coverage. There is a clear ROI for an enterprise to buy equipment for in-building mobile coverage. We've compared equipment cost to the IT budgets in these enterprises, to assess the viability of each market segment."
Principal Analyst Joe Madden added, "We predicted two years ago that the Enterprise market would grow rapidly, and we have not been disappointed. The Enterprise Mobile Infrastructure market has already tripled in size since we published our first report in 2014. We've used our headstart over other analyst firms to go deeper this year, helping companies to identify the requirements in specific vertical markets."
This report contains 41 charts and diagrams to illustrate what's important in each enterprise market area, as well as a detailed 5-year shipment forecast. The forecast includes breakdowns of equipment sales:
- DAS vs. Small Cell vs. Repeaters;
- Regional variations
- Trends in the ownership model;
- Trends in the level of installation skill required;
In addition, the analysis of vertical markets includes several factors for each type of enterprise, to illustrate the positive ROI for enterprise investment:
- Data traffic density;
- User density;
- Enterprise revenue per user and per square meter;
- Mobile operator revenue per user and per square meter;
- Estimated cost of DAS/Small Cell/Repeater per square meter; and
- Expected Mobile IT Budget per square meter.
