NEW YORK, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Millennium Development Goals Awards (MDG) will once again take center stage in the capital of the world. The ceremony raises awareness about the critical work of the United Nations and honors the exceptional endeavors of select national governments, world and civic leaders and celebrities who are taking a stand and are contributing towards the Millennium Development Goals. The MDG goals include poverty, health, HIV/Aids, empowering women, education, climate change and developing a global partnership for development. ABOUT MDG AWARDS COMMITTEE
Introduced to the UN by H.E. Sheikha Haya Rahid al Khalifa, 61st President of the General Assembly, the not-for-profit Millennium Awards Committee was founded for the purpose of creating awareness of the MDGs by recognizing and publicizing achievement by all stakeholder groups. In addition to the annual event in New York City, the MDGAC collaborates with UN agencies and other organizations to present MDG Recognition Awards at their special events across the globe as well as producing MDG related educational events and Public Private Partnerships. In recognition of his support for the MDGs and his efforts to rally significant undertakings from all stakeholders to achieve the MDGs, President of the General Assembly Srjan Kerim received a Special Recognition Award from the MDG Awards Committee. The award was presented by UN Goodwill Ambassador, the renowned actor and director Danny Glover and Ambassadors Zina Andrianarivelo- Razafy and Francis Lorenzo.
