Grassroots movement surpasses $8 million in 2015, with more than 34,000 volunteers and 153,000 donors nationwide supporting Dr. Ben Carson
MERRIFIELD, Va., Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2016 Committee, a political action committee raising awareness and support for Dr. Ben Carson's campaign for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, today announced that it raised more than $5.9 million in the second half of 2015, bringing total fundraising in 2015 to more than $8.4 million.
"Our fundraising success has only expanded over past several months as Dr. Carson's momentum has continued to grow," said John Philip Sousa IV, chairman of The 2016 Committee. "Dr. Carson has incredible grassroots support nationwide, and we're continuing to see more and more people come on board in support of Dr. Carson's message of hope and healing that our nation needs so badly. We're excited to see where this support takes us as we approach the Iowa caucus on Monday."
Since January of 2015, The 2016 Committee has received donations from nearly 153,000 unique donors, with an average donation of $52.
In addition to fundraising success, the Committee has also seen important gains in the creation of a large-scale grassroots effort in support of Ben Carson's run to the White House. The Committee has reached more than a million voters with copies of "Rx for America," Sousa's extensive primer on Dr. Carson, and hosted or scheduled more than 300 movie night showings of "Gifted Hands."
The Committee has also successfully built a national grassroots movement numbering more than 34,000 volunteers. It operates full-time offices in Iowa and New Hampshire, and chairmen are in place in nearly every state in the nation.
