For the first time in its 40 year history, PHC will present awards recognizing individuals and organizations whose work supports and advocates for the humanities and empowers Pennsylvanians to think critically, grow and engage in their communities.
The Champion of the Humanities Award will be presented to Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett for her exemplary service and significant contributions to the public understanding of the role the humanities play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The Distinguished Service to the Humanities Award will be presented to an individual whose work has applied the humanities to raise the social, cultural and historical consciousness of people in the community. The Humanities Partner Award will be presented to an organization that has collaborated with PHC to provide humanities programs that inspire people in their communities to become more informed and engaged citizens.
"The humanities are at the heart of conversations and experiences that make a difference and change lives – from grassroots arts and cultural organizations to museums, historical societies and academic institutions – the humanities open minds and inspire cultural dialogues that connect us to our past and to one another," said PHC Executive Director Laurie Zierer.
