ThanksUSA Recognized in Ranks of Region's Best Charities
Selected for Greater Washington D.C.'s 2015-16 Catalogue for Philanthropy
MCLEAN, Va., June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ThanksUSA has been chosen for the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington Class of 2015-16, naming it one of the region's best community-based charities. This award recognizes ThanksUSA's effectiveness and success in working to provide need-based scholarships to children and spouses of military families.
"We are honored that the Catalogue for Philanthropy has provided ThanksUSA with its stamp of approval in recognition of our good works," said ThanksUSA's Executive Director Michele Stork. "ThanksUSA's inclusion in the Catalogue reflects our commitment to America's service men and women. It will enhance our reach and afford us more opportunities to develop programs that help provide the gift of education to their families."
Based in McLean, VA, ThanksUSA has raised more than $10 million over the last 10 years, resulting in more than 3,400 scholarships to students in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and across all the armed forces, the National Guard and Reserves.
ThanksUSA was selected for the 13th annual Catalogue for Philanthropy which has connected caring citizens with worthy community causes and raised more than $28 million for featured nonprofits since 2003.
"Donors know they can trust the Catalogue to help them make smart decisions about local nonprofits where their contributions will really make a difference," notes Catalogue President Barbara Harman. "The Washington, D.C. region ranks third in wealth disparity in the nation – having one of the most affluent populations in the country, and also one of the poorest. We are in a unique position to help our neighbors by connecting donors and volunteers to worthy, local nonprofits working to strengthen the D.C. region."
The Catalogue's vetting process is rigorous: Members of a 125-person review team, including foundations, corporations, peer nonprofits and the philanthropic advisory community, evaluate charities on the basis of program impact and fiscal soundness. Each featured charity is visited on-site by at least one member of the review team.
The Catalogue will be distributed to 25,000 individuals and hundreds of family foundations in November. Learn more about ThanksUSA here.
