SAN MARCOS, Texas, May 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 26, 2015, Texas State University Men's Lacrosse Team won the Lone Star Alliance Division I Championship. With the win, Texas State is headed to the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) National Championship tournament in California. The tournament, scheduled for May 11-16, hosts the top 16 teams from across the country including Texas State.
Texas State University has a non-NCAA college lacrosse program, meaning they have to raise money to cover their travel expenses. To get to the national championships, the team needs to raise $13,000 to cover expenses for the 40 players on their roster. Pioneer Bank has pledged towards their goal and encourages others to donate through the club's GoFundMe campaign at http://www.gofundme.com/txstlacrosse. "Making the top 16 out of 200 lacrosse teams in the MCLA is a phenomenal achievement!" said Jeff Wilkinson, Pioneer Bank President and CEO. "We are excited to help support this team on their journey to the national championship. In addition to representing Texas State University, several of the athletes on the team come from Central Texas high schools like Dripping Springs and Lake Travis."
This donation is not the first support from Pioneer Bank for Texas State student athletes. In 2011, Pioneer Bank established an endowment awarded to student athletes from Hays County. Also, the bank was the presenting sponsor of the 2015 Bobcat Bonanza held in April which raised over half a million dollars for student athletes. It was the fourth consecutive year the bank sponsored the event.
