CHICAGO, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Medical Association (AMA) announced today that Susan R. Bailey, M.D., an allergist, immunologist and pediatrician from Fort Worth, Texas, was elected as the new vice speaker of the AMA House of Delegates. In this position, Dr. Bailey will assist in presiding over the policy-making body of the nation's largest and most influential physician organization.

Dr. Bailey has been active in organized medicine since her medical career began and has held many AMA positions. She was a member of the AMA Council on Medical Education from 2001 to 2008 and served as chair of this important advisory committee from 2009 to 2010. Dr. Bailey also chaired the AMA's Advisory Panel to the Women in Medicine Project and was a member of the AMA's Ad Hoc Committee on Women Physicians.
She is a former president of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and has served as speaker for the policy-making bodies of the TMA and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
Dr. Bailey has been a dedicated member of the AMA House of Delegates since 1988 and has represented the physicians of Texas since 1991. She chaired the Texas delegation to the AMA House of Delegates from 2006 to 2011.
After receiving her medical degree from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Dr. Bailey was an associate consultant at the Mayo Clinic in the department of pediatrics. She has been in private practice in Fort Worth since 1988.
