SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DistribuTECH - Ventyx, an ABB company, today announced that Texas-New Mexico Power Co. (TNMP), a transmission and distribution service provider that delivers power to 230,000 homes and businesses on behalf of retail electric providers in Texas, has selected Ventyx software to help restore its customers' power more quickly, safely and efficiently in the event of outages.

TNMP is automating its processes with a Ventyx solution as part of a broader implementation of an advanced metering system (AMS) throughout its service area. TNMP is installing up to 240,000 smart meters for residential and commercial customers to create a smart electric grid by 2016.
TNMP will install a new Ventyx outage management system (OMS), integrated with an advanced business analytics solution, to improve its outage lifecycle management process from planning to customer communications, service restoration and post-regulatory reporting. Furthermore, the Ventyx software will help power TNMP's new online outage center, which will allow customers to view outages and receive personalized notifications – as well as notify the utility of outages in their area. Customers will also be able to receive outage alerts by phone, email or text message. This will significantly improve customer communications. The agreement also includes a three-year contract with Ventyx Managed Services to provide 24/7 application services and support through Ventyx global service centers.
"Often it is difficult to predict the specific impact severe weather will have on our electric system, such as last month's ice storm in Dallas, where ice on power lines and fallen trees cut power to some 11,000 customers," said Bobby Roberts, AMS program manager at TNMP. "A fully implemented OMS would have given TNMP an automated tool that would quickly and accurately predict outage locations, as well as provide more effective management of restoration efforts. Additionally, the integrated notification capability will allow TNMP to keep customers fully informed along the way. Ventyx was able to step up and meet our needs. They offered an off-the-shelf solution that presents outage information in a dynamic, graphical way to aid fast decision-making."
"TNMP chose to host the system with Ventyx Managed Services because we wanted to focus on our core business of providing reliable electrical services to our customers, and TNMP had confidence in Ventyx capabilities to provide a cloud-based solution. In addition, we are able to implement the system faster as Ventyx is responsible for the system IT infrastructure," said Roberts.
Ventyx Executive Vice President Network Control, Yilang Chen added, "We are honored that TNMP chose Ventyx to supply end-to-end solutions and services for their operational needs. Our outage lifecycle management software, coupled with Ventyx Managed Services, will help ensure TNMP drives the most value out of their investments in AMS."
