Texas Instruments joins Change The Equation

TI and more than 100 other companies sign on to STEM education network launched by President Obama at White House event today

DALLAS, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) has joined Change the Equation (CTEq), a national network of more than 100 companies that have come together to mobilize corporate support behind improved science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education for all American students.

Improving STEM education has been a top priority for both corporate and foundation philanthropic programs for many years, with support geared toward improving teacher effectiveness and stimulating student interest especially among underrepresented groups. Both TI and the TI Foundation support effective programs that can be replicated and help drive systemic change and improvement in communities where the company operates.

Each year TI and the TI Foundation contribute millions of dollars in grants and other gifts to schools, colleges and educational programs ($25 million in 2009). TI volunteers, equipment donations and in-kind contributions significantly extend this impact.

Demonstrating its commitment to STEM education, the Texas Instruments Foundation recently invested in the Advanced Placement Incentive Program™ in the Dallas schools, building on support it has provided since 2000. Details of the new grant agreement with the Dallas Independent School District and the O'Donnell Foundation will be formally announced on Monday, September 20th at a press conference and reception at Hillcrest High School in Dallas.

TI joined other CTEq companies for the White House announcement today. This is the first and only STEM education group to bring together so many corporate leaders in collaboration with the White House, State Houses nationwide, and the foundation community.

CTEq's goals are to:

Improve STEM teaching at all grade levels;
Inspire student appreciation and excitement for STEM programs and careers to increase success and achievement in school and opportunities for a collegiate education (especially among females and students of color); and
Achieve a sustained commitment to improving STEM education from business leaders, government officials, STEM educators and other stakeholders.
