Texas Health Care Association Thanks Gov. Perry for Designating May 13-19 as "Nursing Home Week" in Texas
Members of State's Largest Long Term Care Association to Celebrate Nursing Home Week with Local Events, Educational Outreach to Honor Residents, Family Members and Caregivers
AUSTIN, Texas, May 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Texas Health Care Association (THCA) thanked Governor Rick Perry today for designating Sunday, May 13 through Saturday, May 19 as "Nursing Home Week" in Texas. As stated in a proclamation signed by Gov. Perry, the week-long awareness campaign will serve "to highlight the important role of nursing homes and to acknowledge the important services of nursing home staff." Today, there are approximately 1,200 nursing homes in Texas, providing 24-hour skilled, rehabilitative and convalescent care services to more than 90,000 elderly and disabled residents.
"We are pleased to have Gov. Perry join us in setting aside this week in appreciation of our state's growing population of seniors and the dedicated men and women across Texas who care for them each day," said THCA President Tim Graves. "Texas' nursing, specialized rehabilitative and assisted living facilities make a positive difference in the lives of their residents each day, and it's important for us to honor the residents, family members, staff and volunteers who make these facilities so special."
National Nursing Home Week, May 13 to May 19, is an annual observance sponsored nationally by the American Health Care Association, based in Washington, D.C. and recognized each year by THCA. This year's theme is "Celebrating the Journey," intended to honor the lives and milestones of seniors and disabled nursing home residents and the staff who serve them.
THCA member facilities will be hosting a number of local events throughout the week to engage residents, families, community members and others in showing their appreciation for the elderly and disabled in Texas.
