Texas Eye Physicians Endorse Gov. Rick Perry for Reelection
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Praising Governor Perry's leadership on behalf of Texas patients, the Texas Ophthalmological Association (TOA), Texas' largest organization of eye physicians and surgeons, announced today that TOA has endorsed Texas Gov. Rick Perry for reelection in 2010.
"The TOA Executive Council voted to endorse Governor Perry based on his long track record of advancing medical care in the state of Texas," said TOA President R. Galen Kemp, MD, an ophthalmologist from Waxahachie.
"Governor Perry led the charge on groundbreaking medical liability reform in Texas which brought needed physicians to Texas and now serves as model legislation for other states," Dr. Kemp continued. "He is also protective of a patient's and his or her physician's roles as the primary decision-makers in healthcare, acknowledging that they – not administrators – are in the best position to manage the care of the patient."
About the Texas Ophthalmological Association
The TOA is a member organization of over 800 Texas ophthalmologists which was founded in 1956 to promote the science and art of medical eye care through education and advocacy. Eye healthcare is provided by three sources - opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists. It is the ophthalmologist, or Eye M.D., who can treat all eye diseases and injuries, and perform eye surgery. To find an Eye M.D. in your area, visit the "Find an Eye M.D." section of TOA's Web site at www.TexasEyes.org.
