Mark A. Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children's Hospital spoke at the event about the hospital's mission and provided additional details about the size and scope of its new state-of- the-art medical campus that will serve families in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.
"This new pediatric community hospital will enable Texas Children's to provide specialized inpatient care, surgery and more extensive emergency care closer to home for Woodlands residents," said Wallace. "We are excited about the opportunity to expand upon the pediatric outpatient services Texas Children's has been providing here for the last 12 years through the Texas Children's Health Center and the 16 pediatric offices in the Woodlands and surrounding communities."
Wallace said plans for the new Texas Children's Hospital in The Woodlands will include an emergency center with 24 patient rooms, a surgical unit with 4 operating rooms, 30 acute care beds, 5 radiology rooms, 74 outpatient exam rooms and a helipad. The hospital's inpatient and outpatient facilities will encompass approximately 398,000 square feet.
Wallace noted that the pediatric population in The Woodlands and Greater North Houston area is expected to grow by 15% over the next five years and, in The Woodlands alone, the under-18 population is expected to reach 360,000 by 2016.
"I am excited for Texas Children's new pediatric medical campus to open in The Woodlands," said Carol Garner. "This is exactly what our community needs to ensure that children and families have continued access to quality, convenient healthcare services. Phil and I encourage our neighbors to join us in supporting this new hospital."
