AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Texans for Prop 4 today announced the launch of a comprehensive campaign to help pass proposition 4 on the November ballot. The group unveiled their campaign website – TexansForProp4.com – and discussed the collaborative effort between nine Texas Pro Sports Teams. The teams include the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas.
"For decades, Texas pro sports teams have been helping our local communities through our charitable foundations. Proposition 4 will allow us to do even more," Texans for Prop 4 said in a statement. "This approach directly benefits children and families in need right here in Texas, without using any taxpayer or public dollars."
Proposition 4 will help fund professional sports team foundations' charitable activities by allowing the teams to hold charitable raffles at every home game – rather than the twice per year permitted under current law. For decades, Texas nonprofits have used raffles to raise money for charity; but the limitation on the number of charitable raffles that may be held per year minimizes the impact these charities can make within their communities by limiting the valuable private donations generated from charitable raffle ticket purchases.
This measure would empower pro team foundations to raise more money by holding charitable raffles at every home game. Additionally, fans will have two incentives to purchase raffle tickets – the opportunity to give to a deserving charity and the opportunity to win a cash prize.
