Texans Eligible for Three Months Free Prescriptions

DALLAS, April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to help curb the high costs of medications that so many people are facing in Texas, Rx Outreach has announced a donation of $250,000 worth of free prescription medicine for Texas residents who attend the one-day free health C.A.R.E. Clinic on Saturday, April 9, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

"Day after day across Texas, doctors such as myself hear stories from people who can't afford the cost of their medication," Dr. Bobby Kapur, vice chairman of the Texas Association of Charitable Clinics and Texas medical director for the Dallas health event, said. "These people are cutting their pills in half, or even skipping dosages to stretch out their prescriptions longer because they can't afford to refill them. As a volunteer medical provider and as a Texan, it breaks my heart to see citizens of this great state have to make the hard choice between putting food on the table and having access to medication and health care they so desperately need. This is why I am so grateful for the generous medication donation from Rx Outreach and why I continue to volunteer at events like the one being held Saturday. I hope all of those who need access to medicine schedule their appointments right away."

Individuals are encouraged to register for this health event by calling 1-800-340-1301 to secure an appointment time. Parking will be free. In addition to these three months of medications, people will be able to have their blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure checked, get vision screenings, have doctor exams, receive referrals for mammograms and colon cancer screening, and receive health education.

Both medical and non-medical volunteers are encouraged to register for the Dallas C.A.R.E. (Communities Are Responding Everyday) Clinic.
