ESSEX, Md., July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vetter brothers, who are challenging the status-quo and changing the way people look at healthy eating with their line of fresh food products, are embarking on a new challenge - the three-day Tour de Fresh Cycling event. Greg, Brian and Matt Vetter, the founders of Tessemae's, are participating in the Tour de Fresh, a three day, 275 mile cycling event that brings together cyclists of all levels from the fresh produce industry to help raise money for the Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative. The event begins on Tuesday, July 25, and takes the riders from Pismo Beach to Monterey.
"This is what being a socially responsible company is all about. From day one, we've remained committed to giving back to our communities. This is just one way we're looking to create sustainable methods for people to live healthier lives by eating healthier foods," Tessemae's CEO Greg Vetter said. "The Tour de Fresh ties in perfectly with our desire to give back through the Tessemae's Foundation mission of improving access to healthy foods."
"There's no way we could pass up an opportunity to bike through Northern California and help bring salad bars to schools. It's great for everybody involved," Brian Vetter said. "Three brothers biking along the California coast and up and down the California hills are going to have fun, but we're always going to remember what we're riding for – a healthier way to eat for kids who may not have access to these foods. It's a cool way to be a part of something greater than ourselves."
"This ride combines nearly everything that we are passionate about – healthy eating, healthy living, family and philanthropy. To be able to do all of this in one shot is a great experience for us and Tessemae's. We're meeting people who are as passionate as we are about helping kids understand the good that comes out of eating healthy," Matt Vetter said.
The brothers are riding as part of their Tessemae's Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Company that works to improve access to healthy foods and life practices in food deserts. Each rider of the Tour de Fresh picks a school from a pre-approved list where a salad bar can be donated. All of the schools on the list have gone through an application process and are eligible for funding for the salad bar. Matt Vetter is riding for Fairfax County Public Schools, Brian Vetter is riding for Thompson R2 J school district, and Greg Vetter is riding for Vista Unified School District.
Check the Tessemae's social media channels, and the Tessemae's website, for updates about the ride. Tessemae's Facebook , Tessemae's Instagram, Tessemae's Twitter. The brothers will be chronicling their ride throughout the week.
The Tessemae's Foundation signature event, Crop Circles, works to put together public private partnerships with local food retailers, national growers and interested corporate and public agencies, to create pop-up farmers' markets inside food deserts across the country. Local families receive one week's worth of fresh organic produce & dressing along with a community celebration complete with cooking demonstrations by local chefs, exercise classes from local sports figures and recognition awards for the local community garden and nutrition agencies. In conjunction with the Crop Circles event, the Tessemae's Foundation initiates a food summit to discuss sustainable ways to help communities access healthier food and lifestyles.
