"This agreement is a renewal, redefinition and reaffirmation of an enduring business relationship," said Rocky Blanton, president, Teradata Americas. "This speaks well of our advanced database-driven analytics technology, tailored retail professional services and even more, the collective relationships between our people who work together closely to create more business value and produce increasing success for both companies."
The agreement includes an upgrade and expansion of Walmart's data warehouse environment to provide next-generation capabilities. The Teradata technology will offer an expected 50 percent reduction in floor space required and a 40 percent reduction in energy consumption.
The planned expansion includes a data warehouse technology refresh program which will keep Walmart's data warehouse on the leading edge of technology adoption. The agreement also includes a research and development relationship to strengthen the company's competitive retail advantage.
"As this partnership is expanded, we will be able to leverage scalability, processing power, and storage capacity, along with software enhancements," said Jose Hernandez, Walmart's chief technology officer and senior vice president of infrastructure. "Consistent with our sustainability initiatives, this expansion will result in a significant reduction in our data center power and cooling footprint."
Teradata's analytic and database leadership and global customer community continue to grow, as Teradata is now utilized as a data warehouse platform at seven of the top ten world retail companies. Retailers continue to look to Teradata for leading edge analytic technology such as the latest database Teradata 13.10 which includes new temporal analytics that provide the ability to perform consistent year-over-year sales comparisons even as products are moved from one category to another. Teradata tracks not just transactions over time, but how data and the business change and evolve over time.
