ATLANTA, May 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- To support advanced education, Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the analytic data solutions company, has awarded scholarships to children of Teradata employees around the world based on their academic achievements and contributions to their school or community. Each year Teradata awards merit scholarships to assist children of Teradata employees in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

The 2012 winners are:
- Jingchan (Iris) Hu, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will attend the University of Toronto and major in biochemistry. She hopes to become a surgeon. She is the daughter of Teradata employee Lishu Hu, of Dallan in Llaoning, China, and attends Sir Winston Churchill Secondary in Vancouver. Hu is co-captain of the school band, a member of the recycling club, a peer tutor and has been named to the principal's list. She captured the gold award in the national Galois Mathematics Competition, and silver in the national Hypatia Mathematics Competition. Hu has finished in the top 25 percent in the Canadian Open Mathematics Competition, the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat Mathematics Competitions, and in the Euclid Mathematics Competition.
- Christina Ismailos, of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, will major in engineering at the University of Toronto. She is the daughter of Teradata employee Emmanuel Ismailos and attends the Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St Catharines. There, she is president of the student council and is a member of the Student Outreach Society and Reach for the Top. She has earned the school's Highest Academic Average award. Ismailos has conducted research in earth sciences at Brock University and will present the results at the annual Canadian science fair. She volunteers with Canadian Blood Services and has served as editor for the Capples Theater Festival. Ismailos has won a regional competition for best props, choreography and set design in the Sears Drama Festival, and is a winner of the Fresh Ink Writing competition. She also is a member of the Ladies Golf Team and has earned a Grade 9 certification in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
- Ketki Velankar, of Dombivli, Maharashtra, India, will attend the GS Medical College of Mumbai University to major in medicine, with plans to become a doctor. She is the daughter of Teradata employee Yogendra Velankar. As a student at K V Pendharkar Junior College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Dombivli, she has competed in the state Math Talent Exam, the Science Talent Exam, and in state singing contests. Velankar also studies karate and painting. Her volunteer work includes providing tuition for needy children and volunteering for Helpage, a social service for the elderly.
- Sabrina Yuen, of Markham, Ontario, Canada, plans to major in architecture at University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the daughter of Teradata employee Ginny Wong. Yuen currently attends Unionville High School in Markham, where she is on the honor roll and is editor of the yearbook. She is also president of the Harry Potter Club, studies fencing, and volunteers for church activities.
