Tenor Anthony Kearns Returns to Mechanics Hall for 10th Anniv. Celebration of First U.S. Solo Performance on May 2
WORCESTER, Mass., May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- World-renowned tenor Anthony Kearns returns to Worcester, MA to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his first U.S. solo concert at a benefit for Mechanics Hall and Children's Friend, Inc. at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, May 2.
"Having Anthony return for this concert is a huge boost for two great charities," said Karen Ludington, president and C.E.O. of Children's Friend, Inc. Bob Kennedy, executive director of Mechanics Hall, agreed. "It's an honor to have Anthony Kearns and Patrick Healy grace our stage."
Mr. Kearns appeared at the popular venue on April 15, 2000 when he was the youngest member of the wildly popular musical group, The Irish Tenors. Kearns took the stage by storm, receiving accolades from the Worcester Telegram Gazette as perhaps the best equipped of the three (Irish Tenors) to "achieve the level of tenor superstardom now enjoyed by Pavarotti and a handful of other singers."
"We are very fortunate that you are going to be in the Boston area this weekend," said Mary Blake of WBZ News Radio (1030 AM). "Ten years later, you're back here where it all began as a solo performer."
Kearns, who has a flourishing career, will sing a "mixed bag" of opera, Neapolitan, love songs, Viennese, and of course, Irish songs. "There are songs for everyone," he said. Kearns will perform with accompanist Patrick Healy.
"The Great John McCormack sang in Mechanics Hall. We're proud to carry on his tradition," said Kearns. Mechanics Hall has a long history of hosting the world's finest talent, including John McCormack, the legendary Irish Tenor.
Kearns has been thrilling audiences and making headlines since he first arrived on the scene. Kearns made new fans last weekend on "Huckabee" on the Fox News Network through his stunning delivery of "The Lord's Prayer" and "Danny Boy."
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, host of the popular weekend show, said: "Anthony Kearns generated among the best feedback that I've seen about one of our musical guests. It's been absolutely fantastic."
Mr. Kearns travels next to Delta, British Columbia for a performance on Friday, May 7. In June, he will star in Carmen in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.
