Stephen, who will be burning his way up the 21 storeys of the south stairwell of the hotel an astonishing 671 times, traveling up 14,091 storeys and a total of 238,205 stairs, is aiming to raise £50,000 for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.
As well as raising crucial funds for his chosen charity, Stephen hopes the My Vertical Marathon challenge will help to make people think twice about the place fitness has in their lives and to encourage them to take simple steps such as using stairs instead of taking escalators or the lifts.
Tennent Caledonian Breweries have given their backing to the world record attempt as part of their long-standing commitment to charity and community investment across Scotland. The association with vertical marathon also sees the continuation of TCB's 30 year association with the Prince and Princess of Wales Glasgow Hospice.
John Gilligan, Managing Director, Tennent Caledonian Breweries, said: "We are proud to support Stephen in his world record attempt - a quite astonishing undertaking. When he approached us to help in his efforts to raise £50,000 for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, a charity close to our hearts, we were delighted to come on board. Everyone at Tennent's wishes Stephen all the very best for this incredible feat for this great cause."
Stephen, who hopes to complete the required 26.2 miles across three gruelling days, is delighted with the support.
He said: "To have a successful Scottish company like Tennent Caledonian Breweries supporting me in this venture is fantastic and hopefully, together, we can raise a large sum of money for the wonderful work undertaken by The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice."
Stephen plans to run in blocks of three hours, followed by a 45 minute spell for physiotherapy, food and sleep. He expects to finish his vertical marathon around 7.00pm on Saturday, 16th November.
Anyone wishing to accompany Stephen in one or more of his 671 ascents can register to do so at http://www.humanachievementzone.com. A minimum donation of £25 is required to secure a place, all of which will go to charity.
