Temporary "Cancer Center" by RAD Technology Medical Systems allows cancer patients to continue treatment during key upgrade
Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Begins Installation of Idaho's Most Advanced Linear Accelerator
AVENTURA, Fla. and IDAHO FALLS, Idaho, March 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In the fight against cancer, being on the cutting edge of technology is paramount. Today, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center is announcing the installation of a state-of-the art linear accelerator. This technology, which exceeds any capabilities currently available in the state, will replace EIRMC's existing linear accelerator that has served over 3000 patients since 2001.
The tear down and installation of the new linear accelerator will take nearly three months, which presented EIRMC with a unique challenge: how to continue providing critical and life-saving radiotherapy to patients who need it today.
A revolutionary approach from RAD Technology Medical Systems was the answer. They constructed an innovative Temporary Radiotherapy Vault (TRV) system which includes a linear accelerator and all the features of our current radiotherapy suite. Patients have already started receiving radiotherapy treatment in this temporary facility while EIRMC's new equipment is being installed at the Cancer Center.
Prior to the arrival of RAD Technology's revolutionary technology, the process of updating a linear accelerator would close a facility for several months, forcing patients and doctors to make alternative treatment arrangements. This would be particularly impactful given that EIRMC is the region's only provider of radiotherapy, a treatment given to about 66% of all cancer patients.
Debra Barlow, Director of Imaging & Radiation Oncology Services, explains: "The challenge was to upgrade our current equipment without displacing our patients. With three months of technical work ahead of us, the impact to the community and cancer patients and their families would have been untenable. EIRMC decided to invest in RAD's TRV services out of our commitment to the region."
The TRV II is a groundbreaking, patented product that offers all the comforts of a permanent facility. This modular clinic can be installed onsite in a matter of days. Outfitted with a reception area, waiting room, office space, restroom, and a pre-installed linear accelerator, the TRV II is a full-service solution.
"To help put this amazing technology in context," RAD President, John Lefkus, explains: "RAD installs a facility and a commissioned accelerator in approximately 5 days. This compares to the 100 days it will take the average client to install and commission just an accelerator. And this TRV has been installed in three different cities, from New Hampshire to Idaho all within a calendar year."
While the TRV II offers all of the comforts of a permanent facility, this modular clinic can be installed onsite in a matter of days, revolutionizing the way hospital administrators think about upgrade timelines. RAD Technology and its team of experts are on the cutting edge of modular construction, and have the experience to handle all the details of any installation. This makes the TRV II a truly effortless solution for hospitals looking to upgrade their linear accelerator without the burden of downtime.
