Telmex Chile to Build Optical Network Ready for High-Traffic Events From Festivals to Earthquakes
Tellabs and Raylex to build ROADM DWDM network with optical control plane and six-nines of reliability
NAPERVILLE, Ill., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Is your network ready for earthquakes? How about events like festivals and holidays that generate lots of traffic? For Telmex Chile, these are both key questions.
Telecommunications services are critical in good times and bad. Network redundancy and resiliency are crucial to make sure traffic gets through during high demand times like New Year's celebrations as well as in natural disasters. To make sure services are reliable, Telmex Chile will build a new network based on Tellabs® Optical Solutions, with the help of Raylex, a local partner. The network will include the Tellabs® 7100 Optical Transport System and the Tellabs® 7100 Nano Optical Transport System.
Based on DWDM ROADM technology, the new network will enable Telmex to offer more bandwidth to customers with less than one minute of downtime per year. Telmex will be able to deploy new services faster to better serve Telmex business and residential users, as well as allocate bandwidth on demand as needed during high traffic times.
"This is a first-of-its kind network in Chile that will enable us to transport more bandwidth-intensive services where and when needed," said Francisco Sabioncello, Technical Management Director at Telmex Chile. "This specific network design with Tellabs optical control plane will help us ensure intelligent redundancy capabilities to protect traffic during sudden failures such as earthquakes."
The Tellabs solution will provide sophisticated reroute capabilities to ensure service even after multiple fiber cuts. Tellabs' control plane technology and its optical directionless capabilities will add the intelligence needed to enable fast protection and restoration of traffic.
"Tellabs is focused on innovations that help our customers' succeed and stay ahead of the competition," said Alberto Barriento, vice president and general manager, Latin America and Caribbean sales, at Tellabs. "With the Tellabs 7100 system, Telmex will deliver services cost-effectively in a way that makes the most sense for their users and network."
