US patent 7,720,351 comprises the first lot and proposes a DRM solution for protecting advertising in stored, i.e. digitally recorded or downloaded videos by imposing a limit on fast forward and fast reverse operations so to prevent users from selectively skipping commercials included in a show without missing pieces of the show itself. Unlike existing technologies, the limitation does not prevent the user from going fast through a stored video to decide whether it is worth watching, nor does it prevent the user from going directly to any part of the video to watch that part again. The limitation simply discourages users from skipping over advertising when they want to watch an entire recorded show. This lot should be of interest to advertisers, content providers, broadcast networks, cable companies, satellite providers, and other distributors of video content.
US patent 7,590,245 represents the second lot and it provides for anonymous communication over interconnected networks, such as the Internet. In existing technologies, privacy and anonymity is provided by means of substitution and/or encryption of IP addresses. However, as the addresses are still present, there is an opportunity to discover them and thus the sender or recipient. Combining two routing techniques, patent 7,590,245 provides a stronger level of anonymity by transmitting information without the source and destination addresses included in the packet header. This lot should be of interest to network providers, Internet service providers, network administrators, and other entities involved in the secure communications over IP networks.
"Both of these lots represent significant improvements over existing technologies," said Dean Becker, ICAP Ocean Tomo CEO. "Companies operating within these technology sectors should consider these patents valuable assets."
