Telenav Selected to Power Navigation Experience for Ford SYNC® 3
Ford SYNC® 3 users will enjoy an enhanced driving and navigation experience through new features such as Onebox search, and multi-touch mapping
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Telenav, Inc. (Nasdaq:TNAV), the leader in location-based services, announced today that it will power the navigation experience of the recently revealed Ford SYNC® 3 infotainment system. Telenav, a long-time supplier of Ford, will provide SYNC® 3 users with an enhanced driving and navigation experience, including simplified search functionality, multi-touch map technology, and more.
"We are proud to continue our partnership with Ford to deliver a simpler, intuitive and more powerful navigation experience for the SYNC® 3 system," said Sal Dhanani, President of the Automotive Business unit and Co-Founder of Telenav. "We are confident that users will enjoy the new experience powered by Telenav Onebox search, multi-touch mapping, and a modern map color palette."
SYNC® 3 users will gain access to a variety of new navigation and infotainment features made possible through Telenav's technologies. Key features include:
- Onebox Search: SYNC® 3 users will no longer be required to enter location details into multiple fields, such as street number, street name, city and state. With the new Onebox search, drivers can simply enter addresses into a simplified search box, which also provides auto-complete and suggestion functionality for faster searches.
- Multi-Touch Maps: Transitioning from buttons to touch technology, users can now access map data by using zoom, pan, pinch and swipe motions, mimicking the familiar mobile interfaces that users are comfortable with.
- 3D City Models: With the updated user interface, SYNC® 3 users will be able to view 3D city models of buildings and major landmarks, creating an improved user experience ideal for travel.
In addition to the above new features, users will enjoy a simplified point of interest (POI) discovery experience, pulling this information together under common categories, instead of crowding the map in a given area with irrelevant search items. SYNC®3 users will also be able to update their software via Wi-Fi. And thanks to its modern design, drivers will have new Ford/Lincoln color schemes to further enhance their navigation experience.
A number of Telenav-powered features popular in previous versions of the SYNC® systems will continue to be available to drivers with SYNC® 3. Users will continue to have the ability to search using enhanced voice activated destination entry and determine the best route for their trips, based on factors such as traffic, and the most energy efficient route.
