LOS ANGELES, Jan. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Telegram, a cloud-based mobile and desktop messaging app with a focus on security and speed, is expanding its partnership with .ME to offer shortened links for its more than 100 million daily active users. The integration of T.me short links will replace the millions of Telegram.me links already being used in the app.
The transition to T.me short links will provide users with a quick and easy alternative to the lengthy Telegram.me links currently used in the 15 billion messages sent daily on the app. Users, channels, groups, media outlets, bots and stickers will now be accessible with just a few characters, making sharing easier than ever.
"Millions of Telegram links are already shared online and we noticed a lot of users were looking for a shorter alternative, sometimes resorting to third party URL shorteners," said Pavel Durov, Founder of Telegram. "T.me links solv+e that problem by providing a quick, recognizable and consistent alternative. On top of this, a short and elegant t.me/username link puts more focus on the unique content and helps create a greater sense of identity."
Telegram began its partnership with .ME over two years ago and was the first popular messaging application to allow users to register usernames that are accessible via links. The utilization of T.me short links not only benefits Telegram users, but also reaffirms the role of personal domains in the success of businesses of all sizes.
"We're pleased to play an integral role in making it easier for millions of Telegram users to connect and communicate," said Natasa Djukanovic, CMO of .ME. "Even more so, we're thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Telegram. Their continued support of .ME not only better serves their users, but also elevates the .ME domain extension overall."
T.me short links will be implemented immediately. Existing Telegram.me links will automatically redirect to the new short links, and users should not experience any disruption.
