SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Teledyne LeCroy, a worldwide leader in serial data test solutions today released a major upgrade to their Voyager M310C SuperSpeed USB 3.1 protocol verification platform. A comprehensive Power Delivery (PD) exerciser capability is now available for developers to verify functionality, error recovery, and compliance for PD chipsets and end-products. Targeting the growing adoption of the new USB Type-C connector, this software release also adds several enhancements for Power Delivery debug including PD triggering, event stacking, transaction grouping and Verification Script Engine (VSE).
Integrated in Teledyne LeCroy's flagship Voyager M310C USB 3.1 test platform, the Power Delivery exerciser supports traffic generation, including both provider and consumer device emulation. The script-based authoring environment provides pre-defined templates for all Power Delivery packet types. Overrides can be added inline to allow low-level control of headers, payloads, timing, or logical protocol errors within the PD communication channel. Advanced functions including If/Else, Wait, and Do Case allow emulating complex PD behaviors including contract negotiation and power role swaps.
"The new USB Type-C connector is gaining rapid support with top-tier PC and electronics manufacturers. Testing and verifying this new functionality will be essential for developers targeting PD and Type-C applications." said Michael Romm, General Manager at Teledyne LeCroy's Protocol Solutions Group. "The industry-leading Voyager M310C with the new PD exerciser option now represents the ultimate test platform for validating interoperability for the next 10 years of USB development".
The exerciser mode features PD Transaction Manager™ which automatically handles transaction layer handshaking to speed test script development. This mode will track MessageID fields and perform the GoodCRC handshakes allowing Power Delivery transactions to occur dynamically. Flexible control for resistor voltages (Rp / Rd / Ra), as well as programmable VCONN and vBUS settings allow precise testing of cable detection and orientation logic. The exerciser can operate as a full 100 Watt source and 5.00 Amp sink (with external load).
The Voyager M310C exerciser uses standard USB Type-C cables directly connected to the system-under-test (SUT) to generate Power Delivery 2.0 as well as USB 3.1 SuperSpeed Plus traffic. Generating and capturing both USB and PD traffic over the same cable allows testing the entire enumeration sequence including the Power Delivery class specific descriptors.
"The PD Exerciser mode leverages an open scripting architecture and our robust automation framework to create a flexible, end-to-end test capability for USB Type C and Power Delivery" added Mike Micheletti, Product Marketing Manager at Teledyne LeCroy's Protocol Solutions Group. "Finally, USB Developers have a no-compromise solution which combines our best-of-breed support for 10 Gb/s SuperSpeed Plus with Power Delivery allowing comprehensive testing of USB functionality and compliance."
USB Protocol Suite Version 7.20 is now shipping with the Voyager M310C system which enables the Power Delivery mode for exerciser customers. Voyager M310 users that have previously purchased the USB 3.1 exerciser option can access the PD exerciser by updating to USB Protocol Suite Version 7.20.
