KENET is a not-for-profit telecommunications operator in Kenya supporting the communication needs of the education and research institutions in the country. KENET is designated as the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya and provides Internet bandwidth services to member institution campuses.
The new carrier Ethernet network built by Telco Systems for KENET initially provides Internet access and data center interconnectivity to all the universities and research institutes in Kenya. KENET's new network could eventually be extended to provide connectivity to other educational institutions, including the primary and secondary schools in the country.
KENET's new carrier Ethernet network is managed and orchestrated by Telco Systems' state-of-the-art EdgeGenie Orchestrator management system, which gives complete control over the service provisioning processes. The new network is also based on Telco Systems' T-Metro 8001 10GE service aggregation platforms and T-Marc 3348S 10GE demarcation devices, providing KENET with certified CE 2.0 services based on VPLS.
The new carrier Ethernet network deployed by Telco Systems replaces KENET's previously used Layer 3 transport network.
This new network provides KENET with greater bandwidth to support more traffic and better serve its education and research institution customers with superior levels of service level agreement (SLA) commitments and improved traffic engineering possibilities.
"Telco Systems' impressive track record of delivering solid and affordable communications networking technology attracted us to working with the company," said Professor Meoli Kashorda, Executive Director of KENET. "We are confident that Telco Systems and its technology will support our growth plans and contribute to helping us fulfill our mission of providing high quality communications services to all the educational institutions in our country."
"We are looking forward to working with KENET and establishing a long term relationship," said Ariel Efrati, CEO at Telco Systems. "There is a clear trend of upgrading to 10GE to support growing traffic needs and deliver superior service. Our extensive experience and advanced, cost effective solutions position Telco Systems to support service providers upgrading their networks to 10GE."
