Telairity Announces New "Pegasus" Line of Small Footprint, HD/SD Portable Encoding Products at NAB 2014
New encoders for a mobile world include rugged backpacks, camera backs, surveillance cams, drones and more
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Telairity, a global leader in advanced encoding technology for broadcasting and aligned industries, today introduced a complete broadcast line of portable/mobile, small footprint, broadcast HD/SD encoder products to be marketed under the company's new "Pegasus" brand.

Based on Telairity's next-generation 40nm TVP2 video processor, Pegasus products open the door for innovative encoding systems including the industry's first true broadcast-quality HD/SD backpack encoders: the Pegasus BP-85 for V-mount systems; and the Pegasus BP-90 for gold mounts. Telairity's new BP products use IP bonding technology for unparalleled QOS video delivery, support 3G/4G/LTE/WiFi/WImax technologies, and are free of cables, uplinks or trucks for far less costly delivery back to the studio.
The systems will be on display during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention and exhibition at the Telairity booth (SU11306). The convention is being held in Las Vegas on April 7-10.
According to Ben Silva, Executive VP of Worldwide Sales and Business Development, "The Pegasus line allows pure, highly improved, HD/SD encoders in low power, small footprint, shoot anywhere/anytime/anyplace systems. For example, it opens the door to spontaneous interviews in sports with coaches and players: the sort of career-making, spur-of-the-moment interviews that previously could not be done due to the time it would take to get an uplink staged and ready when there are only seconds to capture that exclusive moment."
The Pegasus line also contains the next generation of small, low-power encoders for citicam/surveillance cameras: able to run on either AC or DC, and supporting the full range of all major broadcast battery brands and mounting connections.
The TVP2 video processor, the heart of the new portable product line, is Telairity's second-generation TVP compression architecture. Based on 40nm semiconductor technology, the TVP2 offers four times the compression power of Telairity's 90nm TVP1 implementation while consuming roughly half the power in a chip about one-third as large. Encoding systems built around the new processor are small, low-power devices perfectly suited to mobile production requirements.
More about Pegasus products
Pegasus systems will take full advantage of the reduced size, power consumption, and heat dissipation of the TVP2. In addition to the new BP-85 and BP-90 backpack encoders, the first offerings will include a small modular encoder designed to fit directly on the back of professional video cameras.
The Telairity camera-back product also introduces a new "first" into mobile production. While digital cameras perform some basic image compression to reduce the bitstream they generate to manageable proportions, Telairity's new camera back entirely eliminates the need for any additional post-camera compression step in the video chain by enabling high-performance, high-quality image compression directly on the camera itself.
Longer-term projects include modules for drones and other small, unmanned vehicles that require high-resolution and low-latency feedback for control as well as high-quality images for real-time viewing and off-line interpretation and analysis.
