Teens Develop "Discount Days" to Benefit Charities
Local teens develop a way for the community to save money while raising money and awareness for charity.
DALLAS, May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Teens from The Dallas Brandeis AZA #932 Chapter of BBYO have partnered with local businesses to develop a 15 percent off discount card for the good of charity.
The Dallas Brandeis AZA #932 Chapter of BBYO organization works to empower teens to create and lead their own programs.
The discount card can be purchased for $30, giving shoppers 15 percent off all goods and services from May 10-May 27. All proceeds from the purchase of the card will go directly to charity.
The charities benefiting from the program are The Human Rights Campaign and the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center. "We wanted to select two charities that personally affected our family and friends," said Jacob Herstien, Chapter President. "The charities we selected have proven to put money to good use and make the improvements we want to see in society." Robb Puckett, co-Chair of the local HRC Steering Committee and a member of the National Board of Governors remarked, "We are completely impressed with the thoughtfulness of these young men's behavior. The road to equality can be slow, but as you change hearts and minds, the path is cleared. These boys see a problem and they want to be the change. It speaks greatly to the character of the children, their parents, and their community that they looked at how they speak and change their behavior, forging an 'I don't say that' campaign. We are honored to be chosen by the Brandeis boys as beneficiaries of the AZA Card program."
"So far, more than 70 merchants have signed onto the program," said Braden Fineberg, Chapter Treasurer, "We are thrilled with the response and proud that we are helping to make a difference by raising much needed funds for our causes." Brynn Ginsberg, the Marketing and Events Director for Zynga! Frozen Yogurt commented, "We are so proud to be supporting the AZA-Card program. We see lots of BBYO children here every Saturday night and we're proud to see that the community is important to them that giving back is what is important to them."
