Teen Named Grand Prize Winner Of National Video Contest
'Lights, Camera, Save!' inspires kids and teens to save during America Saves Week
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In recognition of America Saves Week, the American Bankers Association today announced the top three winners in its national Lights, Camera, Save! video contest. The winning videos were revealed through a live broadcast on the association's YouTube channel.
The judging panel, which consisted of personal finance and marketing experts, awarded Christopher Choyce the grand prize for his video, "Life of Savings." Choyce, from Denmark, Maine, was a national finalist after winning first place at the Norway Savings Bank branch in Norway, Maine.
"In only 41 seconds, Christopher's video takes you through one's life journey, exploring the endless possibilities once you start saving," said Frank Keating, ABA president and CEO. "Christopher's video will inspire other kids and teens to view savings as a life-long journey."
The Lights, Camera, Save! judging panel awarded the national grand prizes as listed below:
- First Place Winner—$5,000

This initiative, which launched in 2010 as an offshoot of ABA's Teach Children to Save program, is a unique competition that encourages kids to use video to communicate the value of saving and motivate their peers. Banks hosted 117 contests in 46 states for the local levels of the competition and selected a winner to represent their bank to compete at the national level. Keating attributes LCS' success to the bankers' efforts in promoting and hosting the contest locally.
In addition to the national grand prizes, the videos were screened at the association's National Conference for Community Bankers in February and the bankers in attendance selected Choyce's video to receive its Bankers' Choice Award.
ABA will also award a free registration on behalf of each student to Jump$tart's National Educator Conference this fall in Washington, D.C.
The parent program, Teach Children to Save, is a national campaign to organize banker volunteers in efforts to educate young people about the importance of developing a lifelong savings habit. This year the program will celebrate its 19th anniversary on April 24. Since 1997, it has reached 7.2 million young people with the help of more than 210,000 banker volunteers.
