WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen Inc. announced today the sale of a CM-75 Ultra combined heat and power (CHP) unit to be installed in Paterson, New Jersey. This is one of the first engine-driven CHP products to benefit from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) low emissions certification (NJDEP Administrative Code 7:27-8.2f) that was awarded to all Tecogen CHP systems installed with Tecogen's proprietary ultra-clean emissions technology.
The certification saves customers time and money with exemptions from preconstruction permits, operation certificates and air permits in the state of New Jersey. The sale of this ultra-clean CHP system is a direct result of Tecogen CHP systems' recent certification in this program. This unit is being purchased by American DG Energy Inc. and installed by their partner Peter Westerhoff at Governor Paterson Towers, a 225 unit, 30 story, residential high-rise.
"We expect to save tens of thousands of dollars in installation costs and 6 to 12 months in the permitting process," said Peter Westerhoff. "In addition to this, the certification allows that Tecogen units will no longer need to be re-tested and re-permitted every five years as with other systems without this value-adding certification. These savings make the difference between a very profitable project with a 3 to 5 year payback and a project that we would never touch."
"Adding the New Jersey certification and exemptions to our dependable, efficient, exceptional products gives us confidence that the New Jersey CHP market will favor Tecogen systems," said Robert Panora, president and COO of Tecogen. "New Jersey energy economics favor CHP technology. Now, customers using our systems are able to streamline the permitting procedure."
All Tecogen CHP systems equipped with the ultra-clean emissions system will share these exemptions, simplifying the installation and permitting process, making installations that were prohibitively cumbersome, profitable.
