WALTHAM, Mass., Aug. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen is proud to announce a joint effort with the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) that will demonstrate the Ilios, a new high-efficiency propane-fueled commercial water heating system, at four sites in the US. This project will show performance, gather operating data and provide economic payback information for the propane fueled Ilios hot water heaters. The Ilios units will provide a new alternative for propane to compete more effectively in commercial and industrial water heating markets. The project supports PERC's R&D strategy to "To facilitate effective research and development and commercialization programs that expand markets, reduce costs, enhance safety, and/or improve the environmental performance of propane utilization equipment."
"Forty percent of water in the US is heated with electricity, and in many markets propane is either marginally or not competitive in commercial water heating," said Steve Lafaille, product manager for the Ilios product line at Tecogen. "The Ilios HEWH-500-AS uses propane more efficiently to produce hot water in commercial and industrial applications allowing propane to be a competitive alternative in markets that were not accessible before. It also improves the perception of propane as a high efficiency, environmentally friendly energy source. We are excited to be partnering with PERC in this product demonstration."
